CEDAW Report Released | 4 June 2024

The CEDAW (The Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women) Committee has just issued its observations on Singapore’s report at the United Nations in Geneva on 16 May 2024. Click here to read the entire report.

SHE was extremely privileged to have been able to speak at and collaborate with the other Singaporean community service organisations in attendance. The CEDAW Committee noted Singapore’s progress and considerable efforts in undertaking legislative, regulatory and policy reforms, but, as expected, also expressed concerns about the many issues that still need tending to. Ah well, as the old saying goes, "A man’s work is sun to sun, a woman’s work is never done."

SHE was glad to note, however, that our concerns over discriminatory stereotypes and gender-based online violence were specifically mentioned by the Committee. We look forward to working with our partners to achieve even more progress with gender equity in Singapore.
